Lunch & Grow #PopUpShop Recap
On Saturday, May 28, 2016, The Young Belle Project Lunch & Grow Series created a shopping amptosphere for at risk teen girls living at The Covenant House of GA, a homeless youth shelter. Lunch was sponsored by Chick Fil A of West Midtown and boutiques such as SB Boutique, Kiwi Vintage Home & Green Market, and many supporters donated new and gently used clothing, shoes, and accessories to put on a afternoon worth remembering.
Celebrity and published stylist Mo McKenzie hosted the afternoon that was full of laughter, education, and team work. After introductions Mo discussed the role of a stylist, and indepth details into the world of fashion. With several girls interested in actually conquering the fashion industry, Mo was truly heaven sent, and helped them develop the right mind set for their journey. The young ladies discussed correct attire for different types of interview settings, and causal wear, before breaking up into two groups, which consisted of one stylist, two models (1 interview/1 casual wear), and several assistants. The girls were instructed to work as a team to collaborate pieces from the racks to construct a full outfit from head to toe. This allowed the girls to exercise their understanding of the do's and don't of what to wear, while having fun and working together.
Shortly after review and critism the girls were introduced to Michelle, a woman full of inspiration and a special connection to the youth because she once was a homeless young woman with two children journeying to find her true purpose. Michelle told the girls no matter what your situation is, there is always up, as long as you keep God first and stay positive. Tears and smiles were shared as the young women felt a sense of empowerment and optimism.
The afternoon fun ended in an all inclusive shopping experience which blew their minds. Every girl left with several bags of clothing, shoes, and accesories to conquer their individual journey's. And for that we coudn't of asked for a more perfect day.
